Well done to all who has competed in the weekends Peninsula.
The wind were true to form- just not in the areas where we expected it.
But all of you who started, well done!!!!

JULIE MARSDEN STEENBRAS CHALLENGE RUN:

full Challenge.

We all start from the Spur, and run to the foot of Steenbras hill where
everyone will meet.
The challenge starts there.

You will run up to the 1km mark and then turn around and run down 500m
where you collect a coloured band.

You will then run up another kilometre to the mark, turn around and run
down 500m where you will collect another coloured band.
This you will do until you reach the top – about 3.5km!

ON the downhill – you will run down until the hairpin turn, turn around and run UP for 500m, then all the way down.

Afterwards you make your own way to the Spur parking area.

We hope to have a coffee stand there, otherwise, you can get coffee form the coffee shop opposite.
There will be muffins.

TWO OCEANS:

PLEASE DO NOT SHOOT THE MESSENGER.
So ONCE again, Two Oceans changes their minds!
Pls see below – and sorry for the hype that I caused……

CLUB VERIFICATION WILL NOW BE DONE ONLY FROM 25 MARCH

(The same day that Substitutions close and two days after Westcoast marathon)

We realise that most runners would not yet have purchased or renewed their 2019 licences thanks to the ASA extension rendering 2018 club licences valid until 17 February 2019. We will, therefore, open the club verification window on 25 March, 6 pm for a week until 31 March, midnight, 2019.

We have also taken into consideration that many runners are trying to
qualify or improve their seeding in the period 18 – 24 March.

Accordingly, as you would be aware of by now, the final date for all OMTOM
2019 substitutions; qualifier, seeding and medical info; and any other
required profile updates, was moved to 25 March 2019, 5pm. The postponement of our verification window is also in line with this, with due consideration for runners wishing to qualify or improve their times at these races:

23 March – Langebaan Country Estate Weskus Marathon

So note that I will ONLY start with the verification process after
substitutions have closed on Monday 25 March.

Strand News – 13 Feb 2019

I think we had a record amount of people at the time trial last night – a
whopping 72!

Well done all of you!

Thank you, also, to all who attended the New Members braai – I trust you
know a bit more about how the club functions.

To all the new members, we have made laminated maps, which we are keeping
in the “mandjie” so take one next time you run – if you are not sure of the
route.

PENINSULA:
Is there any one or supporter who is willing to assist with getting the
gazebo and drinks/food to Simonstown on Sunday morning.
Pls contact Celia

NUMBER COLLECTION:
Will be on Saturday 16 Feb, between 10:00 and 10:30 at the KwikSpar in
Broadway Boulevard, opp Lourensrivier NG Kerk.

If you can not collect, pls send someone to collect on your behalf.

BUS:
I have send an email to everyone who is going by bus.
Pls make sure that you PAY BEFORE FRIDAY as we will NOT take any cash on board.

GAZEBO:
We will have something to eat and drink at the Gazebo afterwards.  Pls take
note there will be one drink of a kind for each – if you need more, there
will be stalls where you can buy.

RACE NUMBERS:
You have to run with BOTH your license numbers – one in front and one in
the back.

Make sure that your Peninsula Race number does NOT cover the LOGO at the
top of your license – on the front number.  The logo must be visible.

There is normally a built in chip in your race number. So if you feel
something lumpy, do NOT take it off.  It is your timing chip.

REMEMBER OUR CLUB COLOURS ARE ROYAL BLUE – so no black or other colour/funky pants

You can be disqualified for not running with registered club colours.

WEATHER:
It looks like cool (20 – 22C) but windy conditions.
Fish hoek        Simons town.

CONGRATULATIONS TO OUR WALKER
Our walker, Denis Hines, has been selected to represent South Africa at the
World Masters Athletics Championship in March, in Poland.

He will compete in the 3000m and 20km race walking.
What an awesome achievement.

TWO OCEANS:
PLEASE UPDATE YOUR OMTOM PROFILE BY TUESDAY 19 FEBRUARY.

This is the last day to update since I am starting with Club verification
on Wednesday 20 Feb.

Go into your profile by using this link:

Strand News – 24 Jan 2019

In 11 months it is CHRISTMAS!!!! 😊

Something to look forward to in this long, long, LONG month!!!

The first few months of the year is packed with races, training and I often
see people running in the morning and afternoon.

Enjoy summer!

Herewith some news for the week:

PACK RUN:

There will be no pack run due to Red Hill.

However a few members are meeting at Stellenbosch and run to Jonkershoek.
(18 – 20km)
Contact Christie for more info: 072 707 6795

RED HILL:

The Red Hill 36km and 42km take place on Saturday 26 January at Vishoek
Atletics Club (Silverglades Sports Fields, cnr Nelson rd and 20th Ave)

There is also a 5km at 07:00

PLS TAKE NOTE:

Both races start at 05:30

It is quite a walk form the registration point to the start of the race –
make provision for this!

Both races cost the same: R150.00

A reminder to keep the LOGO’s on top of your race number open, when you
attach the Red Hill’s race number.

Upgrades and downgrades ON THE ROUTE is allowed! There is a split in the
road at the bottom of Red Hill (at about 20.km). If you have entered for
the 36km and feel you want to do the Marathon, you ask one of the officials
at the split to mark your race numbers. Likewise, if you have entered the
42km and feel you only want to do the 36km – ask the officials to mark your
race number.

(I will be pacing the 4:15 bus on the 36 if any one wants to join)!

Pierre and Marina (and the bakkie) will be a the bottom of Red Hill, on the
right hand side, just after the waterpoint – look out for them and have
something to eat, drink and support!

See the following from the Race organisers:

Race Starting time

Due to the roadworks being a safety issue NO LATE STARTERS will be allowed.
Race starts promptly at 05:30

Assembly Point

The race assembly point is at the corner of Kommetjie Rd and Corsair Way.
You will need 5 minutes to walk from the club to the assembly point please
make sure that you are at the assembly point in time.

Route

Our route differs a little from last year due to the roadworks. Keep far
right at all times and listen to the marshals.

For your own safety DO NOT RUN OVER THE WHOLE ROAD! We are sharing the
road with vehicles and you as a runner do not have right of way, if a
marshal stops you thank him/her for caring about your safety. Run smart!

Carry your own refill station

There will be a refill station for the “carry your own” members at the
Marathon & Classic split.

Water Tables

There is a water table roughly every 3 kilometres with water & coke.

Do Not Litter!

Since you are running through a national park and next to the ocean NO
LITTERING will be tolerated. We will have litter marshals who will be
looking for any runners disposing of their litter and we have permission
from ASA to disqualify them from the race.

Parking area

TWO OCEANS:

We are URGENTLY looking for Half and Ultra entries.

If you are not running or know of someone NOT running, pls notify me
immediately.
We have a long waiting list.

The second Two Ocean training run is taking place on Sunday at Edgemead.
Only 14km after Red Hill.

Charity Hat Walk

Strand Athletic Club was privileged to receive a very generous donation from the proceeds of the Charity Hat Walk held on 25th November.

On the photo are Armand Botes, Western Cape Manager and Stephen Brooks, the CEO and founder of Balwin Properties, together with Frans Kotze who received the cheque on behalf of SAC. We are very excited about this big-hearted donation which will help our less privileged runners
